Use the magnetic flap level gauge to conduct field trials to understand the status of agricultural land

The system makes it possible to visualize the state of agricultural land in the Mekong Delta*1 by using the magnetic flap level gauge to conduct field trials to promote measures to solve the problem of agricultural land. The National University of Vietnam. This initiative is part of Japan’s Sustainable Soil Utilization Research* 2 (hereinafter referred to as the project). The agreement is based on an agreement reached between the governments of Japan and Vietnam to provide official development assistance (ODA) to support measures to solve the problem . The impact of salinity on agricultural land.1. Project backgroundThe Mekong Delta in Vietnam is affected by the salinity of seawater infiltration during the dry season. This is due to the decrease in the volume flow of the Mekong River and the role of tides under the influence of climate change caused by global warming. In addition to salt damage, due to the severity of droughts and floods, the agricultural environment is worse than in the past. The Mekong Delta region accounts for 30% of Vietnam’s farmland and accounts for most of its domestic food production. It is estimated to cause billions to tens of billions of yen in damage, which has become a serious problem.Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has been cooperating with Can T University on this project since 2017. Can T University has deep agricultural and environmental research knowledge in the Mekong Delta. The company is using compact magnetic flap level gauge units, which will use its expertise and skills in the fields of electronic components, circuit design and software design to measure the condition of farmland and river water with high precision. Combining these observations with independently developed monitoring tools, we can visualize and analyze environmental conditions through views. It has contributed to the implementation of IT in agriculture in the Mekong Delta by preventing salt damage to rice fields and orchards and reducing salt and sulfur pollution in agricultural land and waterways.2. The characteristics of the magnetic flap level gaugeThe wireless transceiver system consists of a gateway, a router and several magnetic flap level gauge nodes. Each magnetic flap level gauge node consists of a transmitter * 3 and three magnetic flap level gauge units, which are used to measure the water quality of soil, fields and rivers, and the sensor data is stored in the cloud. The main functions are as follows.-Compact about 13 cm magnetic flap level gauge unit, equipped with three magnetic flap level gauges, which can measure two types of conductivity*4, temperature and moisture content-Using a magnetic flap level gauge that combines a uniquely shaped magnetic flap level gauge element and a proprietary algorithm for high-precision condition analysis-Three AA batteries can be used continuously for more than one year-IP68 * 5 dustproof and waterproof performance and reliable anti-rust performance, can be used for a long time in harsh environments3. Future OutlookThe project started in 2017 with a three-year plan that used proprietary technology developed in farmland restoration based on monitoring the salt status of farmland damaged by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Trang and Ca Mau provinces, where surveillance systems were initially introduced, were deployed in Ben Tre and four other places in Kien Giang province in October 2018. Through joint research with many research institutions, Murata will continue to work hard to use its unique sensing and wireless technologies to achieve global SDGs * 6.4. Installed in the Mekong Delta* 1 Delta area of the Lower Mekong River including southeastern Cambodia* 2 An initiative aimed at improving the fertility and quality of crop production soils on alluvial soils, acid sulfate soils and salinized soils in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. It also aims to increase profitability and achieve sustainable agriculture that can adapt to climate change.*3 Equipment used to generate and transmit electromagnetic waves carrying information or signals* 4 indicates the conductivity of the material*5 Among the protection levels of the outer surface of electronic equipment, the dustproof and waterproof performance is the highest* 6 Sustainable Development Goals: 2016-2030 international goals adopted by the United Nations Summit in September 2015
