Why are glass plate level gauges suitable for measuring high temperature and high pressure environments?


The glass plate level gauge ability to measure liquid levels under high temperature and high pressure environments is primarily due to its meticulous consideration of three key aspects: material selection, structural design, and safety protection.

First, the core lies in the scientific selection of special glass. Ordinary glass cannot withstand severe thermal shock, while high-temperature and high-pressure level gauges use different heat-resistant glasses depending on the operating conditions. When the operating temperature is below 260℃, heat-treated borosilicate glass is used; while for ultra-high temperature conditions between 260℃ and 450℃, aluminosilicate glass with superior performance is employed. These special glasses not only have extremely low coefficients of thermal expansion but also possess extremely high mechanical strength. For example, the nominal pressure of the high-pressure level gauge glass can reach up to 32MPa, and the temperature resistance can reach 450℃, sufficient to cope with extreme conditions such as power plant boiler drums.

Second, the unique mica sheet protection technology is key to its resistance to high temperature and pressure. When measuring high-temperature steam or strongly alkaline media, a layer of corrosion-resistant mica sheet is applied to the liquid-contacting surface of the glass plate. Mica not only resists high temperatures and impacts, but also effectively isolates the glass from direct chemical corrosion and erosion by high-temperature media, thus significantly extending the glass plate's lifespan and maintaining its transparency.

Finally, a robust mechanical structure and thoughtful safety design provide strong protection. The instrument body (pressure-bearing component) is forged from heat-resistant steel, effectively preventing deformation and leakage at high temperatures. Simultaneously, safety steel balls are pre-installed in both the upper and lower valves. In the event of accidental glass plate breakage, the steel balls will automatically seal the valve opening under the high pressure within the container, quickly cutting off the outflow of media and preventing accidents.

In summary, it is the physical isolation provided by the special heat-resistant glass and mica sheets, along with the high-strength pressure-bearing sealing technology, that enables the glass plate level gauge to operate stably and safely for extended periods in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
